CRITERIA B - DEVELOPING IDEAS 

Term 1

Introduction:

My name is Nada Asaad, I study in Emirates International School Meadows, this is my 9th year in this school. I have made this blog for my IT Studies and throughout this term, I will be learning about Programming with Scratch. I am hoping I will end up achieving a good mark at the end of this term with good knowledge about IT.

The MYP Design Cycle consists of 4 stages:

Statement of Inquiry:

CRITERIA A - INQUIRY AND ANALYSING - DEADLINE - 23/10/2016

The Criteria A consists of 4 Strands

1) Explain and justify the need for a solution to a problem for a specified client/target

audience.

2) identify and prioritize the primary and secondary research needed to develop a solution

to the problem.

3) Analyze a range of existing products that inspire a solution to the problem.

4) Develop a detailed design brief which summarizes the analysis of the relevant research.

Design Situation 

People in this generation have been underestimating the beauty in art in this world, Art is important and useful in your life but lots of people don’t notice it because its beauty isn’t noticeable anymore. Creative, open-minded people are highly desired in all career paths. Art and creative education increase the future quality of the local and global community. Being creative is a lifelong skill and can be used in everyday situations. Art develops a willingness to explore what has not existed before. Art teaches risk taking, learning from one’s mistakes, and being open to other possibilities. Kids who are creative are also curious and passionate about knowing more. As a student who is passionate about art and takes art almost every week, I always spot different perspectives of other people opinion about art , some being negative and some positive, I want to try to achieve those negative thought turning them into positive because art is all around us and is incredibly important. Recently we had an assessment is an art creating your own abstract work and very few students understood what abstract particularly meant. Considering our age range, lots of us don’t take art seriously and think to themselves; just splashing paint is counted as art. I thought to myself that teaching children or teens more about art in an appropriate perspective, they may understand and find more beauty to art. I am aiming to do this to particularly children towards a young age so when they grow up they’ll be more aware of art.

Interview Questions for Art Teacher:

Me: Good Afternoon Miss Blue, Thank you for your time!

Ms. Blue: Good Afternoon, It was my pleasure.

Me: So, considering you’re an art teacher, I can guess that you know plenty of things about art and I’d like to see your perspective of art itself comparing to other students.

Ms. Blue: Yes as an art teacher it is my duty to know the subject art itself, so go ahead and ask away.

Me:  Why’d you choose to teach art, out of all Subjects why art?

Ms. Blue: Well when I was younger I always wanted someone to notice my art and no one did, until this random art teacher saw me one day and he said I was “special and an inspiration to others” and when I finally became confident with my art (which I never was until the teacher became my idol towards art) I thought: If that teacher could help me overcome my passion to art, then so can I, he was the only one who actually had hope and believed in me and someday I hope to become like him.

Me: Why do you think some students don’t appreciate art?

Ms. Blue: My theory is because some students aren’t open minded to the world and don’t like to explore different subjects or aren’t creative, therefore ignoring the beauty.

Me: What’s your favorite type of art and why?

Ms. Blue: I would say abstract would be my favorite because it's such a mystery to me, you don’t know the emotion the artist was feeling whilst drawing although you have to figure it out and as well as because of its use of imagination etc.

SWOT ANALYSIS OF EXISTING SOLUTIONS

Strengths: The strengths of watching you tube videos or looking at pictures of art will help you evaluate the beauty and importance of art around us.

Weakness: Although simply looking at an art piece may not persuade some students because of their thinking of the world and subject art.

Opportunities: You can always go to art galleries or art professionals who have a great passion for art and ask them questions and try to understand their perspective. 

Threats: Students who don't like art won't have any use to this and ignore it all together and forgetting what's the importance of art.

Strand 4 - Develop a detailed design brief which summarizes the analysis of the relevant research. Design Brief :- The Design Brief is a short statement of what you are going to make, why you are going to make it, and for whom you are making it for.

After analyzing different results to my problem (Ignorance of Art). I have decided I will be making a scratch about how to draw simple objects. This game is mostly targeting to kids around the age of 7 or over who wish to discover a passion for art or at least have a hobby t it at a young age. I have decided to keep this game fairly simple and forward but fun because I would like kids to be attracted to click on the game. I think this would be helpful to kids because they can discover whether art is their thing or not. This game can be educational or simply just for fun. I have also THOUGHT about adding a competition setting as children like to be competitive in games, which makes the game overall more fun.

My scratch game will include different categories such as: Animals- Nature- Objects etc.

Like I have mentioned before there will be a competition mode.

There will also be a section of tips or hints telling us how to use color, and there will be a fact box at a random time. 

Because this game is supposed to be fun and helpful, it will include motivation words like- good job, wish I can draw as well as you, good luck etc..

The game will also consist of sounds.

I am really looking forwards to making my game and expect it to be a fun experience, however, I could be changing my ideas throughout the making of the game.
